Jessie’s Second Ever Blog Post

Hello all, it’s Jessie again.  Hope you’re well.  I am.  Today, I’ve got my happy tail on. It’s gently wagging away very nicely, thanks very much.  My two humans and I have just come back from our morning exertions in the local park.  It’s very rare for me not to be impatient to get there, the word ‘enthusiastic’ doesn’t quite cover it.  Today was no exception.  My two humans, who aren’t really morning people, often say that I shouldn’t get so excited.  Don’t get excited!  Well, if you don’t want me to be so excited, don’t make everything sooooooo exciting!!!  That’s the answer, isn’t it?  It’s not my fault if everywhere I look the said ‘everywhere’ is crammed jam-packed full of things of different shapes, sizes, colours and smells waiting for a young adventurer like me to explore.  ‘To boldly go’ and all that sort of thing (apologies to those of you who don’t like split infinitives but it’s a quote, don’tcha know?).  Just when you think that there is already more excitingness than you can shake a stick at there are all these exciting humans and my fellow doggies and all the other creatures to meet and have a good chinwag with.  Exciting is nice.

Anyway, getting back to the subject in hand, when the three of us got to the park I had a jolly good workout: running around the place like an athlete; sprinting after the ball and bringing it back to the humans on demand (it’s hardly rocket science, but the two of them are so happy when I do so that it would be churlish for me not to oblige); then (how to put this delicately?), ahem, I ‘perform my toilette’; and – of course – I catch up with my doggie pals and their humans.  Us doggies have a good chat and a good play.  We doggies need to network, as you might be aware, we are very social.  How else can we keep up with what’s going on?  Especially as my two humans tell me that I’m not getting my own mobile anytime soon.  A bit harsh but I must bear these hardships bravely.  The other thing I really like doing as part of the morning’s exercises is searching for my ball when it’s been thrown in the undergrowth or in bushes.  As the ball tries to hide from me this proves a bit more of a challenge.  Never let it be said that I don’t rise to a challenge.  I’m pretty hot at this and I have to use my powers of deduction, especially my keen sense of smell, to find it.  Yep, I’m a regular – what my humans call – Sherlock Holmes, whatever that is.  Although, it sounds very appropriate here.  See, all this gallivanting in the park improves my brain power too.

After all that activity I usually need a bit of a drink.  Sticking out my tongue is a sure-fire sign for my humans to get the water bottle out fast and let the life giving liquid flow freely so I can get my fill.  On the way back home you’ll usually find me walking at a more relaxed pace with a contented gleam in my eye.  Well, I think you’ll agree – all in all – it’s been a very productive day at the office.  Yes indeedy.  Take heed, oh captains of industry, take heed.

Anyway, back at the ol’ homestead it’s time to break the fast good and proper.  Let’s face it, I’ve earned it.  You see, apparently, it’s not great for me to have a big breakfast before doing all those gymnastics in the park.  Something to do with the ol’ digestion, no doubt.  So if I’m going to run around like a good ‘un I usually just have only a little snack to start the day: a dental stick.  One of these a day is supposed to keep the old smile nice and pearly.  But now – after my triumphant return – I can tuck into a bowl full of wholesome goodness.  If you can bear to wait a couple of minutes I hear the sound of a bowl of food.  Food alert!  Food alert!  Need to investigate…

About a minute and a half later…

Reader, I ate it.  Yum, yum, yum, yum, yum, yum, yum.  Mmm, delicious, my compliments to the chef.  Hardly touched the sides though.  Yawn… Do you know what?  Yawnnn… I’m starting to feel a pleasant heaviness in my tum.  Yawnnnn… It just might be time for a snooze.  Yawnnnnn… Yes, a snooze sounds about right.  Yawnnnnnn… Not a big snooze but not a small snooze either.  I think a medium-sized snooze would just fit the bill.  Then I’ll be ready another promenade this afternoon…  Bye, bye for now.  I’ll report back for duty in a few sleeps time or so.  See you soon.  Love, Jessie X.

P.S.  I found my humans through Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.  You can see other doggie divas that are looking for a home at www.battersea.org.uk .
